We all know how important it is to have a mask that fits well. A well-fitting mask helps protect the wearer from particles and viruses. Even two years into the pandemic, many of us still struggle with getting our masks to fit perfectly on our faces. Luckily, there are a couple of easy ways to fix an ill-fitting mask.
How Can I Tell if My Mask Fits Well?
A well-fitting mask should reach from the top of your nose bridge to the underside of your chin. It should lay flat against your cheeks with no noticeable gaps. If you notice any large gusts of air coming into or out of your mask when you breathe, your mask might not fit as well as it should.
Faces come in all shapes and sizes and your mask should too. One-size-fits-all doesn’t cut it when you want to create a good seal. That’s why our masks come in 5 adult sizes and 3 kids sizes to best suit any face shape. Be sure to refer to the size guides on the page to find the best one for you!
Use Tape to Get Rid of Gaps
If your face mask is loose, don’t cross the ear straps to make it tighter on the face — this often creates large gaps on the cheeks where air can flow freely into your lungs. Instead, try using tape to create a seal.
Tape is a very effective way to eliminate gaps both in the sides and on the nose bridge. While the tape laying around your house can work in a pinch, it’s abrasive for your skin and may not adhere well to the mask.
The best option for OURA masks are the double-sided Active Tape. It’s perfect for sealing any pesky gaps in your mask, and increases filtration efficiency by ensuring your mask fits snugly and comfortably on your face. Active Tape is medical-grade, hypoallergenic, and perfectly safe for your skin. It also is great at preventing foggy glasses.
Use an Ear Strap
If tape is not an option, our Active Strap Ear Savers are the next-best solution. Most people use them to remove the strain on their ears from their mask and to keep their mask in place, but it is also a great way to get your mask to fit more tightly.
The Active Strap comes with 5 different sizes so you can adjust the tightness to find the right fit for your face. They also provide better support during fast-moving workouts and prevent your ears from hurting from mask straps that are too tight.
We hope these tips help the next time you put a mask on. Stay safe, and let us know if you have any questions!
